Pike High School will be well represented at the Circle City Classic this Saturday, September 26th, with our choir, band, cheerleaders, dancers, and color guard participating in the Parade at 10:00 a.m. and taking the field for featured pre-game and halftime performances.
Our Red Devils will face Warren in the Football Showcase at 2:00 p.m., followed by the HBCU Battle of the Bands.
Tickets may be purchased online (price will include the Ticketmaster fee) or purchased at the Lucas Oil Stadium Box Office for face value.
This is more than a football game. It’s a celebration of legacy, excellence, education, and the power of our community.
Congratulations to Pike High School senior Flori Bosslet, who received an official commendation from the National Merit Scholarship Foundation for her performance on the PSAT last fall.

Next Week is Homecoming Week!
This year, our week-long, community-wide celebration of Pike Pride, Tradition, and Excellence will take place from Monday, September 28th to Friday, October 2nd.
Our Pre-Game Homecoming Carnival will take place from 4:00 to 6:30 p.m. on Friday, October 2nd, in front of the Pike High School Stadium. It will feature games, bounce houses, food trucks, face painting, music, performances, prizes, fun, and Pike Family fellowship.
Pike Township Cub Scout Pack 830 is collecting donations for the Pike Red Zone Food Pantry next week.

This year, Eastbrook Elementary School’s theme is “Glow ALL In: Every Student, Every Staff Member, Every Day!”
Last year, 86% of our third-grade students at Eastbrook passed IREAD, reflecting the impact of intentional instruction and a collective commitment to student success.
Eastbrook is strengthening its Professional Learning Communities through monthly PLC Share-Outs, where teams share goals, instructional strategies, student learning actions, and pre- and post-assessment data. This has created greater accountability while providing opportunities to celebrate student growth. They are excited to see increased collaboration within and across grade-level teams, leading to more purposeful conversations around instruction, student data, collective ownership of student success, and shared problem-solving.

Students in Mrs. McKinney's Social and Community Services class were invited to join the Marion County Coalition of Youth Violence Prevention Council. Last week, approximately 21 of our students attended their first task force meeting. They listened to a presentation on Policy 101, which included information about what policy is, where policies are created, and how to be involved in changing policies. They also had the opportunity to participate in an open forum by answering questions from their fellow coalition members.
Mrs. McKinney shared that students were actively engaged and felt empowered by having the adults in the room asking them questions and taking their opinions into serious consideration.

Food plays a significant role in every culture and in many of our most cherished traditions. In addition to nourishing and sustaining us, food has the unique ability to bring us together, evoke positive feelings, remind us of special experiences, and foster a sense of community and connection.
In recognition of Hispanic Heritage Month, we invited some of our staff members to share recipes for some of the foods that have personal and cultural significance for them.
This week's featured recipe, Cachapas, was submitted by Melissa Munoz. She shared, "I would describe a Venezuelan cachapa as a cross between a sweet corn pancake and soft, slightly chewy cornbread, but with a much stronger sweet-corn flavor. The outside is golden and lightly crisp, while the inside is soft, moist, and slightly textured from the corn. The natural sweetness of the corn is balanced perfectly by the salty, creamy, melted cheese traditionally placed inside. It reminds me of cornbread with cheese, but softer and more substantial. If filled with pernil, the sweet corn pairs beautifully with the seasoned, garlicky, juicy pork, while the melted cheese brings everything together. It is a delicious combination of sweet and savory flavors that makes cachapas very comforting and satisfying."
She said, "This dish brings back really happy family memories for me. In my late teens and early twenties, before I moved to Indianapolis, we would often visit a farmers market on the weekends that had a little spot where they made cachapas fresh with fresh corn. Going there was part of our family routine—we would spend time walking around, doing some shopping, and then have cachapas together for lunch. I remember it as simple but really meaningful family time. Because of those memories, cachapas remind me of family, weekends, Venezuelan culture, and enjoying good food together."

Author Shifa Saltagi Safadi visited College Park Elementary School on Friday, September 18th.
Ms. Shifa Saltagi Safadi is a National Book Award winner and the recent recipient of an Indiana Authors Award, sponsored by the Indiana Humanities and Glick Philanthropies. Her books include Kareem Between, Sisters Alone, The Gift of Eid, the Amina Banana series, and her upcoming title, The Kaabah Cat.
While at College Park, she spoke with 5th graders about verse novels and common elements of fiction such as voice, theme, plot, and a narrative arc. During the Q&A, she also shared how she became an author and read several pages from her newest book, Sisters Alone. Students had the opportunity to get books autographed and meet with Ms. Safadi in small groups.
"Our students were engaged and responded to Ms. Safadi enthusiastically; there is already a wait list for students who want to read library copies of Ms. Safadi’s books."

This week, Pike High School had the honor of hosting the MIC Academic Banquet. Principal Wolley, who is serving as the MIC President this year, his team, and our students did a phenomenal job.
As we settle into the school year and our daily routines, we ask for your continued help reminding your child that Indiana state law prohibits the use of wireless communication devices during the school day.
If your child brings a device to school, it should be powered off during the school day. Elementary school students should keep their devices in the designated classroom location, middle school students should put their devices in their locker, and high school students should keep their devices in their backpack.

Graciela has dedicated her career to supporting English language learners and celebrating the richness that students from different backgrounds bring to our schools. As an advocate for our multilingual learners, she reminds us that every language, culture, and life experience adds something valuable to our community.

GCMS librarian Valerie Dennis shared, "I wanted to use our community space to highlight that Pike has an extended history of excellence.
As I worked on this project, I realized that although each person has taken a different path, their stories create a larger conversation about the qualities that help people make an impact. Together, these individuals remind our students that success can look many different ways—and that their own stories are still being written.
I hope our students see more than just successful Pike graduates and community members on these boards. I hope they see examples of people who faced challenges, embraced who they are, cared for others, and found their own paths.
Together, these stories share a message with our students: Be curious. Be compassionate. Celebrate differences. Create belonging. Be yourself. Believe in yourself. Keep going."
We absolutely love this initiative and look forward to sharing each of their wonderful displays throughout the coming weeks.
