Youth Mental Health Resources & Supports Forum
Please join us for a Community Youth Mental Health Resources and Supports Forum on Thursday, September 17th, at 6:00 p.m. in the Pike Freshman Center Cafeteria. During this forum, we will engage caregivers in important discussions about youth mental health, including the importance of having open and supportive mental health conversations with young people and how to recognize warning signs that may indicate that a young person is experiencing a mental health concern.
We look forward to seeing you at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 17th, for an evening filled with meaningful conversations about opportunities to strengthen the mental health and well-being of our students and families.

Pike High School educator Tori Miller was nominated to be a Champion Candidate for Best Buddies Indiana!
On her Champion of the Year Candidate page, Ms. Miller shared, "As a special education teacher, Best Buddies co-sponsor, and Unified Sports head coach, I have the privilege of seeing firsthand the difference that genuine inclusion, friendship, and belonging can make in the lives of students with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). I believe every student deserves the opportunity to be known for their abilities, build meaningful relationships, participate in activities they enjoy, discover their strengths, and feel that they truly belong.
My work with Best Buddies and Unified Sports has strengthened my belief that inclusion should not be an occasional event or a special opportunity. It should be part of everyday life. I advocate for creating opportunities for students with and without disabilities to build friendships, participate as teammates, develop leadership skills, and become active and valued members of their school and community."
According to its website, Best Buddies International is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to establishing a global volunteer movement that creates opportunities for one-to-one friendships, integrated employment, leadership development, inclusive living, and family support for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).

As we enter the second month of school and settle into our daily routines, we ask for your continued help reminding your child that Indiana state law prohibits the use of wireless communication devices during the school day.
If your child brings a device to school, it should be powered off during the school day. Elementary school students should keep their devices in the designated classroom location, middle school students should put their devices in their locker, and high school students should keep their devices in their backpack.

Pike High School will be well represented at the Circle City Classic on Saturday, September 26th, with our choir, band, cheerleaders, dancers, and color guard participating in the Parade at 10:00 a.m. and taking the field for featured pre-game and halftime performances.
Our Red Devils will face Warren in the Football Showcase at 2:00 p.m., followed by the HBCU Battle of the Bands.
Tickets may be purchased online (price will include the Ticketmaster fee) or purchased at the Lucas Oil Stadium Box Office for face value.
This is more than a football game. It’s a celebration of legacy, excellence, education, and the power of our community.
Bond, who graduated in 2000, shared, "The book is a collection of basketball stories and memories from my life in Indiana. It talks about my time at Pike High School and relives some great moments, including Pike’s 1998 state championship. It also focuses heavily on the Indiana Pacers and their magical 2025 NBA Finals run."
Bond was also recognized in Indiana University's Media School's Alumni Newsletter last month.
This year, Deer Run Elementary School’s theme is “The Playbook: Challenge Accepted.”
Deer Run is focused on providing learning experiences that are both fun and engaging, an initiative that will positively impact their attendance rate, which already exceeds the new state accountability level requirements.
The team is also actively working to build on last year’s record increase in English Language Learners (ELLs) meeting their growth targets on the WIDA ACCESS assessment.
Our Pike Red Zone Food Pantry will host its next distribution from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Monday, September 14th, at the Pike Freshman Center.

Alex the lion is the king of the urban jungle, the main attraction at New York's Central Park Zoo. He and his best friends — Marty the zebra, Melman the giraffe and Gloria the hippo — have spent their whole lives in blissful captivity before an admiring public and with regular meals provided for them. Not content to leave well enough alone, Marty lets his curiosity get the better of him and makes his escape — with the help of some prodigious penguins — to explore the world.
Filled with outlandish characters, adventure galore and an upbeat score, Madagascar JR. will leave audiences with no choice but to “Move It, Move It!”
GCMS Celebrates Pike Excellence in a Powerful Way
Guion Creek Middle School is using its bulletin boards to show students what is possible by highlighting Pike Excellence. The school's theme this year is "We Grow Academic Excellence."

"Telling your truth and living as your authentic self is one of the bravest and most inspirational things to do."
Lori's career has taken her from representing the United States as a professional soccer player to becoming a trailblazing sports broadcaster. She recently became the first NWSL player to call a men's FIFA World Cup match and continues to advocate for inclusion and LGBTQ+ communities. Her story reminds students that being yourself is one of the greatest strengths you can have.

GCMS librarian Valerie Dennis shared, "I wanted to use our community space to highlight that Pike has an extended history of excellence.
As I worked on this project, I realized that although each person has taken a different path, their stories create a larger conversation about the qualities that help people make an impact. Together, these individuals remind our students that success can look many different ways—and that their own stories are still being written.
I hope our students see more than just successful Pike graduates and community members on these boards. I hope they see examples of people who faced challenges, embraced who they are, cared for others, and found their own paths.
Together, these stories share a message with our students: Be curious. Be compassionate. Celebrate differences. Create belonging. Be yourself. Believe in yourself. Keep going."
We absolutely love this initiative and look forward to sharing each of their wonderful displays throughout the coming weeks.

This year, our week-long, community-wide celebration of Pike Pride, Tradition, and Excellence will take place from Monday, September 28th to Friday, October 2nd.
Our Pre-Game Homecoming Carnival will take place from 4:00 to 6:30 p.m. on Friday, October 2nd, in front of the Pike High School Stadium. It will feature games, bounce houses, food trucks, face painting, music, performances, prizes, fun, and Pike Family fellowship.
