Celebrating 4 Years of Growth on Indiana's Third Grade Literacy Assessment.
Thanks to the hard work of our students and educators, we are celebrating four years of growth on IREAD, Indiana's 3rd grade literacy assessment.

We are celebrating a 10-percentage-point increase in third graders passing IREAD in the past 4 years. In addition, approximately 50% of our 2nd grade students pass IREAD, a 3rd grade reading assessment, a year early.

Excellence in Education

Congratulations to Pike High School Educator Matt Jackson, who was recently awarded the Ivy Tech President’s Award for Excellence in Education.

Mr. Wolley attributed the recognition to Mr. Jackson's incredible efforts in supporting and executing Dual Credit instruction. He shared, "This is an INCREDIBLE honor and speaks volumes to Mr. Jackson’s daily efforts here at PHS."

Marching Red Devils Host Preview Night

On July 24th, our Pike High School Marching Band hosted a Preview Night for the community to showcase what they’d learned during their summer band camp. The brief performance, which took place in our student parking lot, featured a series of section spotlights and concluded with a full band showcase.

It was impressive to see how good the band, which is the largest it has been in recent memory, was after just one week of band camp. It was also exciting to see how many community members, including former staff and band alumni, came out to show their support.

Mr. Ruble shared, "You didn't just survive band camp; you thrived band camp."

Poster from the Metropolitan School District of Pike Township promoting 'Power Down for Success' campaign connected to state law SB 78 with images of a backpack, smartphone, and smartwatch.

State Law - SB 78

Indiana Senate Bill 78 requires every public school and charter school in Indiana to adopt a wireless communication device policy that restricts student use of cell phones, tablets, smartwatches, gaming devices, and similar devices for the entire school day — not just during instructional time. This is often called a “bell-to-bell” policy.

WHAT THIS MEANS FOR YOUR CHILD:
Building on our district’s “Power Down for Success” initiative, student devices will be stored as follows during the school day:
  • Elementary School: Designated classroom location
  • Middle School: Locker
  • High School: Backpack
Devices should be powered off before the school day begins and may be used again after dismissal.

The law allows exceptions for students who need a device to manage a documented medical condition with an order from a licensed health care provider, for translation needs, or when otherwise authorized by school administration.

Thank you for your partnership as we work to support focused learning environments for all students.

A quick and important reminder for our Pike families!

While all students currently receive free meals, completing the Household Income Form is still essential.

This form does so much more than help ensure continued meal benefits—it directly impacts our ability to secure funding for programs that benefit all students across the district, from discounted internet access in our schools to funding that directly supports learning.

It can also help your family qualify for valuable benefits like college exam waivers and scholarships.

Help us support all of our students; please complete your Household Income Form today:
