Discovering Broadway Provides Powerful Experiences for Pike Performers

Posted Date: 07/13/26 (05:46 PM)

Incoming Pike High School seniors Cannon Johnson and Christopher Garner, and 2026 PHS graduates Malcolm Reynolds and Kynadi Chandler were invited to attend the show "First Listen" at The Cabaret on Friday, June 26th.
They had the opportunity to see Broadway and "BEETLEJUICE" star Sophia Anne Caruso and Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter Justin Jesso perform never-before-heard songs from a brand-new musical in development by composer and lyricist Zack Zadek. The evening also featured a conversation with the creative team about the process of bringing a new musical to life, dinner, and a post-show talkback.

This is the second year Pike students have been invited to attend a Discovering Broadway event. Malcolm and Kynadi joined the organization for "A Beautiful Mind" last fall and were invited back this year. Two of our students also had the opportunity to return on Saturday to participate in an exclusive Masterclass with Sophia, who provided coaching and worked with them one-on-one

Our Pike High School Theatre and Performing Arts Department Co-Chair, Sarah Vilensky, received the accompanying photos and an email from Discovering Broadway’s managing director, sharing that they loved having our students and that Sophia was very moved by their enthusiasm and excitement for the arts.
We are profoundly grateful to Discovering Broadway for inviting our students to be part of incredible experiences that allow them to learn from, share their amazing gifts with, and celebrate the arts alongside such accomplished industry professionals.
