2026 Cardboard Regatta
The Project Lead The Way Introduction to Engineering Design Cardboard Regatta is a treasured and time-honored tradition in Pike. The 2026 Regatta included teams from Guion Creek Middle School, New Augusta North, and Pike High School. The Regatta, which takes place in our Pike Aquatic Center, puts our student-designed and built boats to the test, measuring if they are able to float, how long they can hold up in the water, and if they can win a race.
This was the second year there was a live stream courtesy of our RDTV and Guion Creek Middle School Jag TV students, who were supported by our Pike IT & Communications Departments.

IndyCar Drivers Visit GCES
On Wednesday, IndyCar Drivers Dennis Hauger and Romain Grosjean from Dale Coyne Racing took time out of their busy schedules to visit Guion Creek Elementary School for Community Day. The Drivers, and Mindy Winkler, an on-air personality from 97.1 Hank FM, shared information about the Indy 500 and participated in fun activities with our students. At the end of their visit, the students were fittingly given a carton of milk, mirroring the Indy 500 tradition where the race winner drinks milk.

On May 13th, our Pike Aquatic Center hosted an incredible community water safety event, which featured life saving information from experts from the Pike Township and Indianapolis Fire Departments, free in-water skill sessions, which were lead by some of our amazing PHS Swim Team Members, a Q&A and autograph signing session with USA Swimming National Team Member Maritza McClendon, the first Black woman to make a U.S. Olympic Team, a free diving clinic, and a free Swimming Clinic, which Maritza helped conduct for Pike Swim Club Members.
Martiza’s story was powerful and inspiring, and she was beyond gracious with her time. It was wonderful to see so many of our students and community members take part in such a special experience.
Thank you to USA Swimming, USA Diving, the Indiana International School of Diving, the Fire Fighters, and Coach Grace and the Aquatic Center Staff for their commitment to making Pike a Water Safe Community and providing opportunities for our students to develop a love for swimming – an effort that was reflected in the historic success of our PHS Swim Team this year.

Beginning July 1, 2026, Indiana’s new law, Senate Bill 78 (SB 78), will require schools to limit student use of personal communication devices, including cell phones, during the school day.
Our district is currently reviewing expectations and procedures to ensure compliance with the law while maintaining a safe and supportive learning environment for all students. Additional information regarding school-specific expectations and implementation will be shared with families prior to the start of the 2026-2027 school year.
