Dr. Larry D. Young, Jr. has a professional career in the MSD of Pike Township spanning over 27 years. During this time, he has served in multiple positions: teacher, assistant principal, principal, Director of Student and Community Services, Director of Elementary Education, Assistant Superintendent of Elementary Education, Assistant Superintendent of Operations, Interim Superintendent, and Superintendent. Dr. Young’s work in Pike Township has extended beyond the school district as he has served on the boards of multiple local organizations.
Dr. Young’s responsibilities, prior to his appointment as Superintendent, included overseeing the development and implementation of the district-wide strategic plan, facilitating the development of Board policies and administrative guidelines, overseeing the district’s response to COVID-19, oversight of athletics K-12, wellness, facilitating the District Leadership Academy, and supervising multiple directors and departments.
Dr. Young’s passion for the community in which he serves dates back to his childhood as a student attending MSD of Pike Township schools for his entire K-12 education. He and his wife reside in Pike Township. Their eldest son is a proud alumnus, and his younger brother looks forward to graduating in 2027. Dr. Young graduated with his Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI). His Master of Education and Principal Licensure were completed at Indiana Wesleyan University. Finally, Dr. Young graduated from Purdue University in West Lafayette with his Doctorate of Philosophy.
