Deer Run is located just south of the corner of 56th and N. High School Rd. in Indianapolis, Indiana.  Deer Run became Pike Township's sixth elementary school when it opened in August, 1991.  We currently enroll over 700 enthusiastic students, grades K-5, and comprise a staff over 70, including teachers, instructional assistants, custodians, food service, and office personnel.  The entire Deer Run staff is dedicated to meeting the diverse, individual needs of our student population.

School Hours and Early Dismissal Procedures

Deer Run's instructional day runs from 8:00 AM-3:00 PM.

Buses arrive at Deer Run at 7:55 and students who are dropped off by car are considered late if they arrive after 8:15.

Buses depart Deer Run each day at 3:00.

*Students may not be dropped off before 7:55 as there is no one to supervise children before that time.

If you need to change your child's transportation arrangements, written permission (a note or an email) must be received by your child's teacher no later than 1:00.  If you communicate the change via email and have not received confirmation by your child's teacher by 1:30, call the front office at (317) 299-1266 to ensure your teacher has received the information.  For safety reasons, we cannot change your child's transportation method based on their word.  Without written consent, your child will be sent home via their normal mode of transportation.

Early Dismissal/Leaving School During the School Day

Parents, please note, it is necessary to come in to the main office, show identification, and sign your child out whenever taking him/her out of school during the school day. This safety precaution helps us protect the students for whom we are responsible. You are welcome to send a note ahead of time; however, your child will not be called down to the office until these procedures have been followed.  Though this process may cause a slight inconvenience, the benefits of this procedure are obvious. In the case of appointments, etc. please allow extra time for your child to collect their things and make their way to the office.  Thanks for understanding.

There are four days built into the calendar each year when students are dismissed at 2:30 to accommodate parent/teacher conferences.  These take place each September and February.  Please check the calendar and newsletters for more details.
