Now about the history of the program:

Pike Township supports the arts and knows that participation in any type of performing arts helps children learn and grow.  With this said, the Pike Youth Performing Arts program is intended to build on the LEAP program that each student participates in.  The district knows that for many students, attending the LEAP program is their only exposure to live theatre and the arts.  By offering Pike Youth  Performing Arts programs (PYPA), students can now experience the joy of performing.

To date, three programs have been done.  The first was during Summer School in 2015.  Introduction to Theatre, Music, Dance and Percussion classes were offered during the three week session.  165 students participated in this first program.  The 2016 Summer School program had 562 students participating in a wider variety of performing arts classes.

The afterschool program launched in January, 2016 at Pike High School.  The program was offered to 1st through 5th graders.  We were hoping to get 20-30 students.  Enrollment was capped at 154!  Theatre was all that was offered.

The name of the summer and afterschool programs will now fall under the umbrella “Pike Youth  Performing Arts”.  Programs will be offered in various areas of performing arts with beginning, intermediate and advanced levels offered as the program grows.  As the program becomes more established, more types of classes will be added.
