Girls’ Basketball Heads to State

Our Lady Red Devils basketball team made history again this weekend by defeating Columbus North on Saturday to capture the Semi-State title.  Now it’s on to the State Championship game versus the 27-2 Homestead Lady Spartans from Fort Wayne. Tickets for Saturday’s 8:15pm game at Bankers Life Fieldhouse are $15 and are on sale in our high school athletic office. Children 2 and under are free and handicap accessible tickets are available.

Girls’ Basketball Semi-State PRE-SALE tickets

Our district has been allotted a limited number of floor level tickets for Saturday’s Girls’ semi-state basketball game in Richmond, Indiana.  The tickets can only be purchased pre-sale Thursday from 6:00am to 3:00pm and on Friday starting at 8am and ending at 7:30pm.  For more information or to set up an appointment, please call or email Kendra Champion-Mcaloon, Assistant Athletic Director at kchampio@pike.k12.in.us or 317-387-2659.

Pike to Host Navy Band

MSD of Pike Township, the Pike Performing Arts Department and the Pike Performing Arts Center are proud to host The United States Navy Concert Band. This FREE concert is on Tuesday April 4, 2017 at 7 pm. Although this is a FREE event, tickets are required. 

2018-19 and 2019-20 School Calendars' Survey

The MSD of Pike Township is preparing the 2018-19 and 2019-20 school calendars. Two years ago, Pike aligned its school calendars with neighboring school districts by transitioning to a more balanced calendar design.  The proposed calendars model this same design.  As such, we now refer to the alternate school calendar (continuous) as the “Balanced” calendar.  Pike is interested in your feedback to these DRAFT school calendars. Please review each DRAFT calendar and provide your feedback by responding to the survey questions by February 10, 2017.

Superintendent Search Update

The Board has completed their interview process and will vote on their selected candidate at their next meeting.

Catch on to Fitness Camp & Clinic

Our district will have the privilege of hosting Tamika Catching's Catch on to Fitness Camp & Parent Wellness Clinic again this year. The clinic, which is open to boys and girls ages 7-14, will be held at Pike High School on Saturday, November 5, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. Camp admission is free with a 10 can donation per camper.

2016 Safe Trick-or-Treat

Pike High School's Bussiness Professionals of America will host their annual Safe Trick-or-Treat event this Thursday, October 27 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Pike Freshmen Center. Admission is $1 or 1 canned good per person (including adults).

Notice of Public Hearing - Proposed Superintendent of Schools employment contract

The Board of School Trustees of the Metropolitan School District of Pike Township will meet on October 27, 2016, at 7:00 P.M., at the Administrative Building located at 6901 Zionsville Road, Indianapolis, IN 46268, for a public hearing regarding objections to and support for a proposed Superintendent of Schools employment contract. (I.C. 20-26-5-4.3).

Summer Enrichment Programming

The MSD of Pike Township will offer incredible enrichment opportunities for students at the elementary and middle school level this summer.

Sport Physical Day April 25th

Sport Physical Day sponsored by St. Vincent Health will be Monday April 25, from 6pm to 8pm in the Pike High School Gym. All current and prospective student-athletes are encouraged to have physicals done during this event.  The cost is $20 and there is no appointment necessary.  The following must be completed prior to receiving a physical:

-Current IHSAA Physical Form

-Student and Parent Athletic Participation Consent Form

-Athletic Medical Emergency Information Card

-St. Vincent Sports Performance Consent for Athletic Training Services

-Concussion/Cardiac Arrest Forms (read and signed by student-athlete and parent)

A student-athlete is eligible ONLY after the Pre-participation Physical Evaluation form is signed by a physician and on file with the Athletic Department.

IDOE Recognizes Pike for Promising Practice

On Friday, March 4, the Metropolitan School District of Pike Township was one of 19 new programs to be recognized by the Indiana Department of Education as part of their Promising Practices in Indiana initiative for our Structured Immersion/Newcomers' Program.

Pike Schools Focus on Flint

Help our neighbors in Flint, Michigan by supporting the Pike Schools Focus on Flint initiative to raise money for the heavy costs the schools will bear due to the long term issues associated with lead poisoning in children.

Pike to host Indiana Swimming Senior State Championships

The 2016 Indiana Swimming Senior State Championships will be hosted at the Pike Aquatic Center March 11-13. The event will run from 8:00 a.m. to approximately 8:00 p.m. 

An Evening with the Arts

Please join us at Pike High School on Monday, April 11, for An Evening with the Arts in Pike. The event will showcase the talents of our students in the areas of visual and choral arts by showcasing choirs representing all Pike Township schools as well as an art display featuring a wide array of student work.

Jazz on the Green

Due to the weather Jazz on the Green will be held in our Pike Freshman Center Cafe.Tickets for the concert, which will feature great performances by jazz headliners, local artists, and a jazz inspired Cajun themed meal, are $20 and willl be available at the door. Door at 4:00 p.m.; Show at 4:30 p.m.

The Pike Township Educational Foundation will host a School Board Candidate Forum at Central Elementary School, 7001 Zionsville Road, on Wednesday, October 12 at 6:00 p.m.

Marion County Champs to Play at Bankers Life

Congratulate our PHS Boys Basketball team for winning their third consecutive Marion County Championship & support them when they play at Bankers Life Fieldhouse on Saturday, January 28.

After more than 13 years of serving as the leader of the Metropolitan School District of Pike Township, Superintendent Jones will retire this December. The Pike Township Educational Foundation has established a scholarship to honor Superintendent Jones and we are in the process of collecting well wishes and cards/notes of appreciation.

The Metropolitan School District of Pike Township “Realizing Your Dream Scholarship” Application Deadline is fast approaching.  All applications must be completed and returned to Evelyn Gearries, Assistant Principal – Pike Freshman Center no later than 2:30 pm on Friday, April 8, 2016 for consideration. Mrs. Gearries will forward all applications to the office of the Superintendent. It is imperative to complete all categories listed on the application. Superintendent Search and Key Stakeholder Survey

Dear Friends of the Metropolitan School District of Pike Township:

The MSD of Pike Township announces the opening of a search for a new Superintendent who will assume responsibilities on January 1, 2017.  The new leader will succeed Mr. Nathaniel Jones who has announced his retirement effective December 31, 2016.  The Board of Education has selected the University Superintendent Search Team with representatives from Ball State University, Indiana State University, Indiana University and Purdue University to assist in this process.

Pike Youth Performing Arts - After School Program

The afterschool performing arts program – Pike Youth Performing Arts is back!  This is the second year for the program.  It has been renamed and enhanced. This new and improved program will begin on January 24 and end on February 28 with a performance for family and friends.  All classes are on Tuesday nights!  Enrollment forms have been delivered to all Pike elementary and middle schools!  Visit the Pike Performing Arts Center website to access the enrollment forms (English & Spanish).

Survey: District Mission Statement

The MSD of Pike Township is in the process of developing a 3-year district Strategic Plan. Based on feedback from the Strategic Planning Committee, we have drafted a new district Mission and Core Belief Statements . A few things to note: • A mission statement is a brief statement of the purpose of an organization including who they serve, what they serve, and why they exist. • Core belief statements describe what we believe will guide us to successfully accomplish our mission. • Taglines create a memorable and powerful phrase about our district’s mission.

Confirmed Case of Pertussis (Whooping Cough)

A confirmed of pertussis (whooping cough) has been identified in Pike Township High School and exposure to some students and staff may have occurred either in the classroom or on the bus. Please be alert for the symptoms of pertussis listed below in order to prevent further cases.

Symptoms usually begin 7-10 days following exposure (range 4-21 days). The first symptoms of pertussis are those of the common cold with a mild cough.

2016/2017 Free and Reduced Meal Applications Online

Pike Twp. Food Service is very pleased to announce that beginning July 1st, applications for Free and Reduced Meal Benefits (which includes textbook assistance) are available online.

To complete an application online, please visit http://msdpike.heartlandapps.com. The online application will guide you through the process.  If you would prefer to print and return a paper copy, it is available under "School Forms" on the main Deer Run page.

If your child received free or reduced meal benefits last school year, please be advised that all applications expire 9/23/2016 and a new application must be completed each year.

The Pike Township Educational Foundation will be participating in Giving Tuesday for the first time this year and are offering several opportunities for you to support this effort.

With over 64 countries and 80 home languages represented by more than 11,300 scholars in our schools, diversity is the strength of Pike Township. We offer our students a real world, global education which is one of the best in the state of Indiana.

Our high school has a 94% graduation rate which exceeds the 89% average in our state. Pike High School has been named one of “America’s Most Challenging High Schools” by The Washington Post in 2013, 2014, 2015, & 2016. Newsweek has recognized Pike High School as one of “America’s Best High Schools” for the past two years.

The National Student Clearing House finds that over 60% of Pike students are currently enrolled in college compared to the national average of 57% and our high school continues to score above the national average for ACT composite score by race/ethnicity.

We have celebrated a record five Gates Millennium Scholars in the past seven years. With over 250 course offerings and more that 50 AP and IB courses, Pike far exceeds what’s available at local private and parochial school. Quite simply, we are #PikeProud!
