High Ability Parent Information
Parents interested in learning about Pike’s K-12 High Ability Program opportunities and identification processes, may view the embedded presentation. Identification and placement into the high ability program begins with NWEA and ClearSight assessment data. Students currently in kindergarten, second, and fifth grade, as well as all new-to-the-district students in first, third, fourth, sixth, and seventh grades will also participate in the CogAT (Cognitive Ability Test) Screener assessment during March 8-19, 2021. This screener assessment data along with the NWEA and ClearSight achievement data will be used to identify students for further High Ability testing (April 7 – 16). Parents will be notified of their child’s scores following each assessment window. Parents may request that their child not participate in this testing by contacting their child’s school Assistant Principal. The student selection process will take place in April and May and parents will be notified by letter as to whether their child is invited into the program by the end of May. Specific dates and schedules for test administration are determined at each individual school. Parents may contact the child’s school or the Office of Curriculum and Programs (317-387-2216) with questions regarding this process. Parents may also refer to the district website at http://www.pike.k12.in.us/Content/high-ability- for additional details about the High Ability Program.
