Pike is hosting "Fight the Flow" to raise funds for The American Cancer Society!  Fight the Flow is an hour long yoga event which will be held Wednesday, November 14th at Pike High School.  Check-in is at 6:00 p.m. followed by yoga from 6:30-7:30. IU Science Fest Is Coming

Pike Students and Alumni Selected for Simon SRP

Current Pike students Sarah Shado, Melanie Man, Brionna Tolbert and Kelsie Kimbrough along with Pike graduates Ariana Black (Tuskegee University) and Jordan Lyles-Holly (Hampton University) have been selected to participate in the 2018 Simon Summer Research Program (SRP).  The program is designed to increase the number of high school and undergraduate students from underrepresented populations pursuing biomedical and behavioral science careers by providing positive and meaningful firsthand exposure to these fields.  During the eight-week program, the students will be paired with a mentor and work on laboratory-based, computer-based and clinical research projects. At the end of the program, the students will present their findings as well as give an oral presentation. Former Pike student Amanuel Kibrom who is currently faculty in the Department of Biochemistry at the Duke University School of Medicine participated in the Simon Cancer Center Summer Research Program during the 2012 summer.

Summer Enrichment Programming

The MSD of Pike Township will offer enrichment classes for students at the elementary and middle school level. Interested students will be charged a fee to participate. Breakfast, lunch and transportation will be provided. Classes will take place Monday through Friday at 8:30 a.m. –2:30 p.m. between June 18 and June 29.

Air Force Academy To Visit Pike

Do you want to attend a top university for virtually no cost? Do you want to become the best version of yourself and serve your nation? The Air Force Academy offers a top undergraduate program with 27 majors, NCAA Division 1 sports programs, a fully-funded education, and employment as an officer in the US Air Force upon graduation from its beautiful location in the Colorado Rocky Mountains.

Red Cross Lifeguard Class

We are excited to offer you American Red Cross Lifeguarding Blended Learning. Blended learning combines online learning with on-site skills sessions where you will practice skills and demonstrate competency. Please plan to complete the initial online lessons of your training at least two days prior to your first on-site skills session, which is scheduled for September 29th at our Pike Aquatic Center.

Pike Offers Summer Sport Camps

Pike Summer Sport Camps are an excellent opportunity for your child to develop and maintain fitness while improving sports skills and techniques.  Pike Summer Sport Camps will be offered this summer between the dates of June 5th thru July 13th.  Please consult the enclosed calendar to be sure when your camp is offered.

Each sport camp will be conducted by Varsity Coaches from Pike High School.  The Varsity Coach and staff will provide expert instruction which will improve your child’s overall fitness and specific skill levels for future participation on a Pike school team.

Dates and times for each camp are set to maximize the opportunity for every child’s participation. If your child is enrolling in more than one sport, the registration form may be copied. 

STEAM Enrichment Programs for Elementary and Middle

The MSD of Pike Township will offer enrichment classes for students at the elementary and middle school level. Interested students will be charged a fee to participate. Breakfast, lunch and transportation will be provided. Classes will take place Monday through Friday at 8:30 a.m. –2:30 p.m. between June 12 and June 30. All Enrichment classes will take place at Pike High School. Please review the available options for week #1, #2 or #3; complete the attached enrollment form; and submit with the appropriate payment to your child’s school as soon as possible but no later than May 12. Application deadline is end of school day on May 12, 2017.  Courses without the minimum number of participants (20 students) will not be offered and a refund will be provided.  Enrollment is first come first serve so turn in your enrollment application to your child’s school office as soon as possible! Enrollment is limited!

School Menus On Your Device With Nutrislice

With an eye toward healthier school meals, Pike Township Schools is making it easier for parents to learn the nutritional value of food eaten at school.

Pike Township now uses Nutrislice, an online menu featuring nutrition and carbohydrate information for every item served in school cafeterias. Nutrislice menus may be viewed online or on a tablet or smartphone by using the Nutrislice app.

By using Nutrislice, parents easily view information about what is on the school menu for breakfast and lunch each day. They can also see an image and a description of food items, as well as nutrition and carbohydrate information.

Our high school has a 94% graduation rate which exceeds the 89% average in our state. Pike High School has been named one of “America’s Most Challenging High Schools” by The Washington Post in 2013, 2014, 2015, & 2016. Newsweek has recognized Pike High School as one of “America’s Best High Schools” for the past two years.

The National Student Clearing House finds that over 60% of Pike students are currently enrolled in college compared to the national average of 57% and our high school continues to score above the national average for ACT composite score by race/ethnicity.

We have celebrated a record five Gates Millennium Scholars in the past seven years. With over 250 course offerings and more that 50 AP and IB courses, Pike far exceeds what’s available at local private and parochial school. Quite simply, we are #PikeProud!

Pike Youth Performing Arts - After School Program

The afterschool performing arts program – Pike Youth Performing Arts is back!  This is the second year for the program.  It has been renamed and enhanced. This new and improved program will begin on January 24 and end on February 28 with a performance for family and friends.  All classes are on Tuesday nights!  Enrollment forms have been delivered to all Pike elementary and middle schools!  Visit the Pike Performing Arts Center website to access the enrollment forms (English & Spanish).

The MSD of Pike Township is in the process of developing a 3-year district Strategic Plan. Based on feedback from the Strategic Planning Committee, we have drafted a new district Mission and Core Belief Statements . A few things to note: • A mission statement is a brief statement of the purpose of an organization including who they serve, what they serve, and why they exist. • Core belief statements describe what we believe will guide us to successfully accomplish our mission. • Taglines create a memorable and powerful phrase about our district’s mission.

Confirmed Case of Pertussis (Whooping Cough)

A confirmed of pertussis (whooping cough) has been identified in Pike Township High School and exposure to some students and staff may have occurred either in the classroom or on the bus. Please be alert for the symptoms of pertussis listed below in order to prevent further cases.

Symptoms usually begin 7-10 days following exposure (range 4-21 days). The first symptoms of pertussis are those of the common cold with a mild cough.

Pike Twp. Food Service is very pleased to announce that beginning July 1st, applications for Free and Reduced Meal Benefits (which includes textbook assistance) are available online.

To complete an application online, please visit http://msdpike.heartlandapps.com. The online application will guide you through the process.  If you would prefer to print and return a paper copy, it is available under "School Forms" on the main Deer Run page.

If your child received free or reduced meal benefits last school year, please be advised that all applications expire 9/23/2016 and a new application must be completed each year.

The MSD of Pike Township announces the opening of a search for a new Superintendent who will assume responsibilities on January 1, 2017.  The new leader will succeed Mr. Nathaniel Jones who has announced his retirement effective December 31, 2016.  The Board of Education has selected the University Superintendent Search Team with representatives from Ball State University, Indiana State University, Indiana University and Purdue University to assist in this process.

Students Earn Microsoft Certifications


Forty-five Microsoft Office Specialist certifications were earned first semester in the Digital Applications and Responsibility course taught by Mr. Chad Bobb. Pike High School is a Microsoft Academy and through this program we were able to certify the students at no cost which is an added value of almost $5,000.

The opportunity to earn the Microsoft Office Specialist certification is a voluntary process. Students are assessed by an independent, third-party certifying entity using predetermined standards for knowledge, skills and competencies. The result is the award of a credential that is nationally recognized and applicable to any occupation.

Pike Career & STEM Center Open for Business


We are proud to announce the opening of our state-of-the art Career & STEM Center located at Pike High School.  Students will have the opportunity to receive dual credit and acquire experience with experienced faculty.  For our students, this is an effective way to offer an educational experience that integrates core academic knowledge and hands-on career and technical training.  With the potential to earn up to 3 credits per semester in courses, students can apply these credits towards all types of high school diplomas. Programs offered include: Accounting, Barbering, Computer Networking, Criminal Justice, Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Interactive Media, Marketing, Advanced Manufacturing, Cosmetology, Computer Tech Support, Culinary Arts, Health Sciences, Management and Radio/Television/Film. Pike to Host First Lego League Event

Sunday, November 8, Pike Township will be hosting the Indy NW – Pike Township FIRST Lego League (FLL) Qualifying Event from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. in Pike High School's main gym. FLL is a robotics competition geared towards grades 3-6. Six Pike teams, as well as other local elementary schools, will be competing. All are welcome to watch, so bring your family to cheer on these exciting teams. This free event is open to the public.

International Baccalaureate International Baccalaureate logo

Pike High School (PHS), an International Baccalaureate World School since 2006, offers the prestigious International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme to our students. This program is currently available at only twenty other Indiana high schools.  It is recognized throughout the world as a premier, pre-university program with a comprehensive and rigorous curriculum in which a college-bound student can participate. The IB Diploma Programme courses are offered in 11th and 12th grade only, but students will prepare for the program by participating in our PHS Pre-IB (Honors/AP) classes that are offered in the 9th and 10th grade. Universities will give some form of college credit for IB courses depending on the final score and exam, similar to the AP exam scores.  Please click on the links down below to learn more about this prestigious program.

Parent/Teacher Conferences for the high school will be on Thursday, February 22 from 3:00pm - 6:00pm on the main campus.

Student Summer Research Opportunity with IU School of Medicine

Vicki Bonds Director of Health Professions and Pre-Doctoral Programs with the IU School of Medicine shared great information with Pike students about the IU Simon Cancer Center Summer Research Program (SRP).  This program is designed to increase the number of high school and undergraduate students from underrepresented populations pursuing biomedical and behavioral science careers by providing positive and meaningful firsthand exposure to these fields.

During the eight-week program (June 4-July 27, 2018), participants work and are compensated for 40 hours each week. Full-time attendance is mandatory throughout the program’s duration. Of course, unforeseen emergencies and school-related obligations may come up, thus, some flexibility may be allowed. However, due to the rigorous nature of the program, a commitment to daily attendance is required.

Selected participants will be paired with a research mentor. Research projects may involve laboratory-based research, computer-based database research or clinical research. Students will learn about research methodology and will complete a project over the summer months. They will present their findings as well as give oral presentations. Applicants are expected to actively participate in all aspects of the program, including professional development. Applications are due Feb. 23, 2018. Questions? Kentucky State Visits Pike Dr Wood, KSU Enrollment Officer

Kentucky State University’s Chief Enrollment Officer Dr. Damien Hodge

and the President of the Indianapolis Kentucky State Alumni, Mr. Richard Graves made a surprise

visit to Pike.  Dr. Ruth Woods, Pike’s Pre Collegiate Consultant introduced them to two seniors who were working with her in PFCs CCRC, Christian Durham, and Yamiley Alphonse.  Dr. Hodge

told them about Kentucky State and invited them to apply.  Low and behold after reviewing each

application and transcript he offered each student a scholarship to his university.  There are still

lots of scholarship opportunities available, Pike’s Scholarship Opportunity Network will be operating

again in January.  Our goal is to provide an academic scholarship program for College-Bound Seniors!!  

E-Cards for Pike Students PIKE ECARD

Extend the shelves beyond school walls with electronic library cards.  A partnership with Pike and our public libraries allows our students to receive an electronic card (E-Card) to access millions of digital resources from the Indianapolis Public Library. Both public and school libraries are community centers at heart, with the same goal: to provide a safe, welcoming environment for all patrons and access to information in a variety of formats. Research shows that when students can get books more easily, they spend more time reading. When they spend more time reading, research shows they read and write better.  All Pike students will receive an electronic card (E-Card)  to access digital resources. However, if you do not want an electronic card for your student, please decline by completing the opt-out form at this link.

2019-20 Balanced Calendar calendar pic

The Balanced Calendar application for the 2019-2020 school year is now available online and can be accessed by clicking the buttons below. Please only submit the online application if you would like your child to attend the balanced calendar school designated for your home address for the 2019-2020 school year. Applications must be submitted by 3 pm, Tuesday, January 29, 2019, to be considered in the first round of the lottery.
