The Pike Symphony Orchestra is the principal performing orchestra and is open to sophomores, juniors, and seniors by audition only. Orchestral repertoire is of the highest caliber and mastery of advanced orchestral technique is evident. This ensemble has been a frequent state finalist.
The Philharmonic Orchestra is open to sophomores, juniors, and seniors by audition only. A number of public performances serve as a culmination of daily rehearsals and musical goals. The ensemble has achieved gold level ratings.
This ensemble is open to upperclassmen having completed one year of high school orchestra. Experiences include improvisation, conducting, playing by ear, and sight reading. Members are called upon more and more frequently for school and community performances. The class includes, by audition, one drum set player and one keyboard player who has an interest in improvisation.
The Beginning Orchestra for 9th graders is an entry level high school orchestra comprised of students with previous experience. In the spring, it can be combined with the Intermediate orchestra, comprised of 9th – 12th graders. These orchestras can stand alone or produce a large orchestral sound.They have been successful at contest, as well.
