The Advanced Placement Program® (AP®) gives students an opportunity to experience college-level courses and exams while they are still in high school. Pike High School (PHS) currently offers 27 Advanced Placement classes to students in grades 9-12. Each class has an approved syllabus and a specially trained teacher to teach this college-level curriculum. For a student to earn college credit hours, he/she must take an exam at the end of the course (in May). AP exams are scored on a one to five scale. Post-secondary institutions may award college-credit hours for exam(s) depending on student’s score. For the state of Indiana, most public post-secondary schools will award college credit for exam scores of 3 or higher; most out of state schools will require a score of 4 or higher.
In 2013 and 2014, Pike High School was named as one of America’s best high schools by Newsweek magazine because of our International Baccalaureate, Advanced Placement, and Dual Credit classes. We also were honored by the Washington Post in 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018 for our College Readiness Programs. In 2017, we were again honored as an AP Honor Roll school for our success in Advanced Placement coursework and exams.
